Gas scrubber towers

Scrubbers , also known as washing towers , represent a particular technology for the abatement of gases and airborne contaminants in industrial environments . In both vertical and horizontal configurations, the operating principle is the same: the contaminated air flow is treated through direct contact with a washing liquid, often water combined with specific reagents. This interaction allows the neutralization and retention of soluble polluting particles , ensuring effective purification of industrial fumes and vapors before release into the atmosphere.
What is a scrubber used for?
The smoke abatement towers represent the ideal solution to control and substantially reduce emissions from complex industrial processes . Thanks to a structure studied in detail by the expert designers of Coral , these systems are able to adapt functionally and precisely to different production contexts, fully satisfying the expectations of the end customer.
Washing towers are the ideal solution for:
- Chemical, pharmaceutical, food and metallurgical sectors
- Treatment of emissions containing acid or alkaline compounds
- Systems with limited space (horizontal scrubbers)
- Industrial environments requiring corrosion-resistant material solutions
Operation of washing towers
The purification and management of contaminant gases, by means of smoke abatement towers, can be carried out in different ways, with static or floating filling. Furthermore, it can be made of thermoplastic material, stainless steel or other materials according to specification. Filtration occurs with washing liquids in countercurrent to the aspirated fumes or vapors . The path of the vapors to be neutralized is ascending: these pass through the filling beds present in the tower and are knocked down by the nebulized rain, in a uniform manner. The washing solution is brought into continuous circulation by the pumps connected to the liquid containment tank. In the filling beds, the air undergoes a continuous impact with the rings that compose them, where the chemical reaction that gives rise to the neutralization of the substances present in the air develops.
Once neutralization is complete, the air is further filtered to eliminate any drops of washing solution remaining suspended in the gas flow, through the drop-stop filter. At the end of the washing cycle, the purified vapors are expelled from the tower into the atmosphere through the exhaust stack .
Advantages of Industrial Scrubbers
The adoption of a filtering system offers numerous advantages , especially in contexts where there are high concentrations of harmful substances. Among the main benefits:
- Application versatility : ideal systems for various industries, even in the presence of high concentrations of contaminants.
- Dual configuration available : vertical or horizontal models to fit any industrial space.
- High abatement efficiency : thanks to the use of water and chemical reagents, the towers effectively retain pollutants.
Choosing the right gas abatement system is essential for compliance with regulations and environmental protection. Coral offers a complete range of industrial scrubbers and washing towers custom designed for every application need.
